Apple Crisp

When your family wants pie, but you don't HAVE pie, and don't feel like making a pie crust, and maybe also you can feel better about eating it because there's oats involved. -_-; Yeah.

Ingredients
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup oats (instant, rolled, steel-cut, whatever)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter, melted

4 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
1/4 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Directions
Preheat oven to 360°F (182°C). If you want crispier crumble, take it to 370. Softer, 350.

In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour and butter. Mix until crumbly. Place half of crumb mixture in an 8 inch square pan and pack it down flat.

In another bowl, mix apples, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. let sit for about 15-30 minutes or so, until sugar has drawn out the juice from the apples and there is a little puddle of syrup in the bottom of the bowl.

Spread the apples evenly over crumb crust in the pan. Top with the remaining crumb mixture – cover all the apples evenly, and pack down the mixture atop the apples so the surface is nice and flat.

Bake in the oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until crust appears to have browned a little and it smells like pie. It’s not very easy to burn this stuff, so don't hesitate to bake it longer if you're not sure it's done.
